Today we’re wrapping up our mini-series on neurodiverse communication by exploring object-based vs. socially-based conversations.
I first got the spark for this distinction a few years ago while listening to a presentation by Dr. Monteiro, who described sensory or object-centered approaches to assessment. It was an ah-ha moment for me and from there, I expanded the idea into a framework that helps me understand how I (and many Autistic folks) often enter conversations differently from allistic people. That’s where this language of object-based vs. socially-based communication comes from.
